A Message From The Pastor
A Message From The Pastor

Dear Friends,

I was scheduled to write later in the week, but as we face the news of Sunday's mass shooting as we worshiped on Sunday, my thoughts kept coming back to our brothers and sisters who gathered in a small church in a small town in Texas, expecting to find peace and community, but faced unthinkable violence and death. The pastor of the church, whose 14-year-old daughter died in the riddle of bullets shot by the lone shooter of an assault weapon, spoke of "leaning on God" in the midst of grief. The old hymn "Leaning on the Everlasting Arms" came to mind. Listen here for Iris Dement's soulful version.

Leaning on Jesus, LeeAnn

Shelter in the Day of Trouble

The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

...For God will shelter me in the day of trouble, conceal me under the cover of the tent; and will set me high on a rock.

I believe that I shall see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.

--From Psalm 27

Out of Dark Comes Light
(a prayer)

God, make us brave for life: oh, braver than this. Let us straighten after pain, as a tree straightens after the rain, Shining and lovely again.

God, make us brave for life; much braver than this. As the blown grass lifts, let us rise From sorrow with quiet eyes, Knowing Thy way is wise.

God, make us brave; life brings Such blinding things.

Help us to keep our sight; Help us to see aright That out of dark comes light.

New Fall Worship Series
Earn Save Give BookYou're probably used to hearing people in church talk about giving. But when was the last time in church that you talked about earning or saving? Is it unchristian to earn money? Is it wrong to save for ourselves, our families and our future?

John Wesley didn't think so. Wesley, the Christian evangelist and founder of the Methodist movement, gave a remarkable sermon called "The Use of Money." In it, he said that the important thing isn't money itself but how we use it. Wesley's surprising advice still rings true: earn all you can, save all you can, give all you can.

October 29th - November 19th, our church will experience an exciting four week worship series based on the book Earn. Save. Give. (Wesley's Simple Rules for Money), developed by popular author and United Methodist pastor James A. Harnish. Rev. Harnish describes Wesley's surprising advice about money-which is just as practical, biblical, insightful and relevant today.

We hope you'll read along with us and join us for the entire worship series. Earn. Save. Give. books are now available on the table in the back of the sanctuary for only $10 each.
